MATERIALS

Each student had a journal, a composition notebook that we provided specifically for the book writing class.

READING MATERIALS: We organized an in-classroom library of children's books. We had all kinds -- from picture books for babies to chapter books for young adults. We also tried to select a number of books that were recognized for awards like the Caldecott medal. In addition to children's literature, we also read a number of "literary" short stories.

ART SUPPLIES: Markers, colored pencils, crayons, constuction paper, old magazines, glue, glitter ... anything that would facilitate creativity.

THE "SPONGE BOB" FILE: A portable file cabinet where students could store their class work.
