WRITING PROMPT BOX
Draw a prompt from the box. Respond to the prompt in a minimum of fifty words. If necessary, allow your writing to wander. If you like, you may respond to the prompt in the voice of your character.
Writing Prompts
- Begin 10 sentences with "I used to . . ." and then move to "but now I . . ."
- Begin 10 sentences with "I seem to be . . . and then move to "but really I . . ."
- Describe yourself as a type of weather: wind, rain, snow, sleet, hail, sun, dew, fog, etc.
- Describe a very very very bad day
- Describe a very very very good day
- Describe yourself from someone else's point of view (friend, parent, teacher, pet)
- If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
- What do you like best about yourself?
- Describe your earliest memory.
- What did you like to do most when you were 5? when you were 10? Now? Are they at all connected?
- Describe a group of people that you have seen at a mall, the movies, a restaurant -- anywhere really. How are they connected? In other words, what is their story?
- Recall a physical or verbal fight and reconstruct it as a scene.
- "My mother never . . ./ "My mother always . . ."
- Are there any historical events that intrigue you, or any stories that you have wondered actually happened? Describe the event from a witness's point of view.
- Imagine some event that could have happened to you but did not, something you hoped for or feared.
